Fortnum and Mason
The oldest of London's departments stores, Fortnum and Mason was founded in Piccadilly in 1707. It has held a Royal Warrant (supplying the royal family)
for over 150 years and is world famous for its Food Hall, and most especially its hampers. It was also the first shop in the world to stock tins of Heinz Baked Beans, a revoltionary new idea in 1886.
In addition to the 2 floors of food products, the store has a further 3 floors of luxury goods including High fashion and items for the home. In 1964 a clock was added to the frontage, with two 4 foot models of Mr Fortnum and Mr Mason, who appear on the hour every hour, accompanied by bells and 18th century music.
