Home London Visitor Advice Tipping

Tipping

There are a few areas where tips are part of every day life in London. Meals, Taxis and Hairdressing. Taxis: is one of the services where it's normal to tip.Meals it's about 10-15%, but check it hasn't already been added. Taxis is about 10% or a few quid (£2) if it's a short fare and at the barber's or salon it's usual to add a little extra.

Other than that, you may occasionally buy a barman a drink 'get one yourself' if they've been friendly. Often they put the money aside rather than have a drink - don't be offended, it's normal practice, as they're usually not permitted to drink on duty. Guides may also get a discretionary tip, but otherwise - that's it.
