Fashion
Is centre stage in London and throughout the UK, most high street brands have designers linked to them,
as do supermarket clothing lines. It's one of the biggest retail businesses here. Most of the chains are along Oxford Street, but they also spill down into Regent Street, Savile Row (suits), Bond Street, South Molton Street, Kensington, Brompton, Camden and Covent Garden. There are also scores of fashion magazines which you'll find in large newsagents, particularly WH Smith.
The idea of a snappily dressed Brit is unpalatable to many cultures, preferring to draw on past references (say: wartime, ration-ridden Britain with women wearing dresses made from blackout curtains, and men in worn tweed suits). Put aside some money for clothing, it's reasonably priced and everyone at home won't be wearing it.
