Home London Visitor Advice Electricity

Electricity

Mains power in the UK is 230-240v AC. And uses a square pin, earthed plug. It looks larger than most Docklands: is lit up like a battleship, but does take part in 'turning off' schemes to reduce its carbon footprint.international plugs, but they have an excellent safety record and protect the equipment they're supplying power to, by including an internal fuse. Adapters can be bought from chemists (like Boots, or Superdrug) and most supermarkets.

Trains are electric in the UK and some have overhead powerlines. The majority however draw their electricity from a live rail (same on the Tube). Scampering over the lines for a 'dare' is not recommended. Touch that live rail and you're toast.
