Curry
A British institution despite originating from elsewhere, especially post-pub. Indian,
Bangladeshi and Pakistani food brought to the country by naturalised immigrants in post-war Britain, took over from fish and chips decades ago as the nation's favourite dish. There's no shortage of restaurants. Korma is mild - Jalfrezi, Vindaloo and Phal are just as popular, but smoking hot. (Don't even think about a "Chilli Masala" - if you find one).
Technically speaking, the phrase "as British as Fish and Chips" should be: "as British as a Chicken Rogan Josh with Pilau Rice, Poppadums, Lime Pickle and a Peshwari Nan." But it doesn't trip off the tongue in the same way.
