London Zoo - Regents Park - Baker Street - Open Air Theatre - ££
Regent's Park was created when the Prince Regent (later King George IV) commissioned John Nash (him again) to turn Marylebone Park (a place for
hunting) into some new development. Most of the proposed housing and the palace, were not built, but those terraces around the periphery were built and still survive. The park was opened in 1845.
Housing a lake and numerous sports facilites, the north section of the park contains London Zoo, the world's oldest scientific zoo, opened in 1828. London Zoo is accessed by the main entrance on the Outer Circle road. The Nearest Tube is Camden Town. Many of the larger animals have been moved to more extensive facilities at Whipsnade Zoo in Bedforshire.
At the south end of the park, in the centre of the Queen Mary Gardens is the Open Air Theatre. It seats 1240, in a Greek style amphitheatre, though be aware that it's exposed to the elements so dress appropriately. It's open May-August and has been operating since 1932. Tickets can be booked online and exchanged if bad weather scuppers the performance.
