The Absolut Icebar
The Absolut Icebar is the UK's only permanent
bar made of ice and is kept at minus 5 degrees all year round. Everything inside is constructed with ice harvested from the frozen Torne River in Jukkasjarvi, Northern Sweden.
Entrance to the Absolut Icebar is in 40 minute time slots and visitors are provided with a designer thermal cape to keep the chill out during that period. Every year the bar is re-designed using a different theme, so it may look different when you return. Central to the room's design is the ice bar itself which houses a custom mechanical conveyor belt, used to display rotating vodka cocktails.
Many of the drinks are served in shot glasses made of ice and the whole experience is theatrical, out of the ordinary and more than a little surreal. Cheap it isn't. Entry is between £12-16 and includes a drink. Refills are £6, though these prices are subject to change - best ring them if you want to make sure. For an unusual drinking experience, it's certainly worth a trip, but unless you have deep pockets, it's unlikely to become a regular haunt.
Children are welcome in the Absolut Icebar until 7.15pm, when accompanied by an adult (there are non-alcoholic drink options).
