Home London Nightlife London Clubs - Cool

Cargo

Another Shoreditch club, though this differs from the norm in that it's open most nights and offers Cargo: good range of music and South American street food, live bands - a real mish-mash.live music and dining too (in a separate restaurant). Housed in a cavernous space, beneath brick railway arches, it genuinely attempts to offer something different. If you like your music eclectic and are partial to South American street food and gourmet burgers, it's the venue for you. Best to ring ahead before going as the musical range is broad and you may want to choose from a selection of nights available. Try the food during the day if you fancy scoping the place out before an evening visit. Beth Ditto and Damon Albarn have been spotted here.

Egg

Egg - the nightclub - is in a dead-zone area of London, north of King's Cross near the Caledonian Road,  though club organisers Egg: has an outdoor chill zone with fake palm trees, which looks less anaemic at night.do run an 'Egg Bus' from King's Cross station to the venue to prevent you from getting lost in the Somerstown hinterlands. The place is huge, with three distinct music zones over the three floors - with each focussing on their own sound. Gravitate to whichever attracts you.

Egg also has a garden/chill out area which provides an excellent head-sorbet to the pounding music inside, palm trees and a relaxed vibe. They operate a non-nonsense dress code ("No polo shirts, no Reebok Classics") and Hollywood celebs have been known to drop in too, so it - ahem - must be cool. Fridays and Saturdays mostly, pretty hip, somewhat pricey, but a good mix of clubbers up for a night of dancing.

Egg also host corporate events for Big Brother 'wrap parties', MTV and similar, for up to 1400.

Pacha London

Transported from Ibiza, though for some it hasn't survived the journey. The music is of the same high quality, Pacha: not quite a direct translation of its Ibiza counterpart, but operates some popular nights.but prices are on the steep side. Big system, split over two levels and a slick door operation. Nights include Hed Kandi, Goldfish and Kinki Malinki. Events are spread over different nights, best to contact before heading over. Would especially suit those who aren't counting the pennies.

Ministry of Sound

Ministry of Sound London attracts 5000 people each weekend and has three dance floors and three bars. It was opened in the early nineties with promises of the most powerful sound system in Europe, which it certainly delivered on. Ministry of Sound: club, record label, brand, but it all began as a club with a system so loud it never gets turned up all the way.The dials are still never turned up beyond half-way for health and safety reasons, they want you to enjoy yourself rather than bleed from the ears.

Starting as a club, then a label, then a brand - the Ministry has grown from a small cult to an international force, but hasn't outgrown its roots. The Gallery (transferred from Turnmills when it closed) is on Fridays, with a range of offerings on Saturdays. Early bird and students get in cheap.

Fri 10pm-6am, Sat 11pm-7am.

Herbal

(1 vote, average 1.00 out of 5)
Herbal can sometimes feel more like a party than an organised club, but the people who go undoubtedly like it more for that reason. Herbal: basic and sweaty with atmosphere, but possibly too basic for some.Yep, it's trendy Shoreditch, etc. but the focus here is on the music and energy rather than the club facilities, as it's in an old warehouse. One person's underground authenticity is another person's pricey flea pit - if you like your clubs large and shiny, you might look elsewhere. They don't have a set musical genre to focus on, so go often enough and you'll hear all sorts turning up - house, drum 'n' bass, hip-hop, funk, R&B, etc. Drinks are not too wallet-punishing and there's a terrace to grab a breather, when the heat becomes too much. At Herbal - it's all about the music. Oh, and it's loud too.

Thu, Sun 9pm-2am, Fri, Sat 9pm-3am.
