Southbank Centre
Southbank Centre's wide-ranging programme: classical & world music, rock & pop, jazz, dance, literature and the visual arts - attracts a diverse international audience.

Constructed on the site of the 1951 Festival of Britain, (when Festival Hall was built), in the late sixties, the architectural style is modernist and has divided opinion ever since it hove into view. Outside aesthetics notwithstanding, the internal spaces are agreed to be superbly functional.
Southbank Centre consists of the Royal Festival Hall, the Hayward Gallery, Queen Elizabeth Hall (containing the Purcell Room), and the Saison Poetry Library.
The Royal Festival Hall holds 2,900 and renovation was completed in 2007 - the space was re-opened officially with a performance by Motorhead.
Along the Thames Path (south), this is one of London's best strolling venues, where more people walk down from the Houses of Parliament to Bankside, without the irritation of traffic or roads. (Shame about the joggers though).
Belvedere Road, London SE1 8XX.
