Hazlitt's Hotel - Soho

Hazlitt's Hotel occupies a group of historic Georgian houses Hazlitt's Hotel in Soho - A boutique hotel, popular with authors, centrally placed with discreet servicein Frith Street, just off Soho Square. It was built in 1718 and although upgraded to modern standards in the 1980s, it still retains an authentic charm to its interiors. The rooms are tastefully decorated, with antique beds and furniture (though of course, with modern mattresses and support). Also, like the Rookery, it has no restaurant, but an excellent and reasonably priced breakfast is served to your room. Hazlitt's Hotel is named after the radical essayist William Hazlitt, who originally lived at number 6 Frith Street, one of the three houses which were conjoined to make the hotel in 1986 (the same blueprint has also been applied to 'The Rookery', their sister operation). Recently a fourth building was added to create more space in the reception area, and eight extra rooms.

Being in Soho, visitors could not be more centrally placed. Most major shops and theatres are a short walk away (Frith Street leads into Oxford Street at the north end, via Soho Street), but Soho has always retained a village atmosphere in the centre of the City. It's difficult to drive through, so the streets are generally pounded on foot. The upside to this, is also the downside, which is why hotels were never traditionally located in Soho. The streets surrounding Hazlitt's Hotel can be a noisy place at night; bars, clubs and pubs stay open till late and it's always been the traditional place to tout for a late night cab. Many of London's streets will be dHazlitt's Hotel - a Superior Double room in the hotel, which also offers a range of suiteseserted by 4am, but you can pitch up to Greek Street, or the South end of Frith Street and find it as crowded and buzzing as early evening. So if you're a light sleeper, try to get a room around the back.

Hazlitt's Hotel is a popular location with authors and it's become a tradition to leave a signed copy of your book with the hotel when checking out. J.K. Rowling often stays here when in London, which I'm sure does their reputation no harm. The rooms have creaky and uneven floorboards, Georgian and Victorian fixtures, but there are 21st century items if you look hard enough (the television may be artfully hidden behind the mirror if you can't find it, for instance).
