Circus Bites Back - Deptford
The Albany's night of Contemporary Circus and Cabaret returns
Thursday 15 December 2011, 7.30pm
The Albany, Deptford
After the phenomenal success of the Albany's inaugural Circus Bites evening, the event makes a seasonal return with a stellar line-up of renowned contemporary circus artists. With thrilling, gravity-defying
performances accompanied one or two heart-stopping surprises, Circus Bites Back has been created to exhilarate and inspire audiences with a highly visual and spectacular programme.
Circus Bites Back is curated by Vicki Amedume and includes her signature company Upswing, as well as leading circus luminaries Long Spoon Circus, Dodgy Whiskers, Leo Hedman, Alice Allart and Tumble Circus. Enfant terrible, the one and only Dusty Limits returns to host the evening bringing his intoxicating cocktail of cabaret, comedy and song to South East London alongside Albany perennial and ukulele-strumming songstress, Tricity Vogue.
Curator, Albany Associate Artist and founder of Upswing, Vicki Amedume says: 'We are really excited to have Circus Bites return to the Albany. There are very few opportunities for people to see such a range of circus by such a range of companies in one night. It will be a night of the spectacular, the funny, the poignant, the beautiful and a fantastic representation of the talent in British Circus.'
Circus Bites Back offers the audience an opportunity to experience a heady mix of aerial dynamism, acrobatics and
physical theatre with a musical twist in the Albany's theatre-in-the-round. There will also be an after-hours party with live music from Alberteen.
Leo Hedman (Leo & Yam) combines aerial acrobatics with the unique potentials of plastic, Tumble Circus bring a touch of comedy with an absurd jaunt into the soul, Dodgy Whiskers present an extract from their show Myself in Salad combining physical theatre, music and trampoline whilst Long Spoon Circus merge juggling and physical theatre with their trademark style and vitality.
