Busaba Eathai - £
Busaba Eathai is a canteen-style Thai fusion restaurant handily located in Soho - a skip and a jump from busy Oxford Street. Diners are sat at long communal tables, which can
be a little cramped, and the crowds mean that service is slower at peaks, but the food is superb, a cut above Wagamama and similar canteen-style food bars.
The seafood at Busaba Eathai is particularly good, gently spiced with ginger and garlic, and the curries are light, delicious and totally satisfying – the Beef Masaman was authentic and well-portioned, not too much, not too little. Honestly - I could have had a little more, but that's because I'm greedy and it was delicious. The portion size is fine.
Despite the busyness, the service is polite and efficient, rather than the manic, pained-look variety you often see from staff when everyone has the same idea of having a quick lunch at the same time - in the same place. They cope well.
Busaba Eathai is probably too expensive to be indulging in daily, but is perfect when Friday comes around and the prospect of having sandwiches for lunch again pales. It has a satisfied buzz about the dining room and a loyal following. They've just opened another branch in the City, so if you want relaxed authentic Thai, probably just a single course - then visit one of their 5 branches (there were just 3 last time I checked a little under a year ago).
