Hungry after your visit to the Golden Eagle Pub? Well, conveniently a few doors down is this traditional
London fish and chip shop - The Golden Hind. They don't make them like this anymore, though back in the sixties and seventies, no trip to Margate or Southend was complete without Fish and Chips and a cup of tea - served in a sit down chippy.
The Golden Hind was full except for a window table and the turnover here is swift. Service is likewise, pacey and the cod and chips was both authentic (excellent batter - more seasoning perhaps) and very fresh (certainly caught on-the-day and never been near a freezer). They also supply their own tartare sauce, so no messing about with plastic sachets - nice touch.
The Golden Hind also allows you to bring your own booze - which is something of an oddity. If you're looking for a bargain fish supper, then look on, because it's not especially cheap (just under £10 for cod and chips), but it did live up to the price, so no complaints there.
Apparently it has a rare and authentic fish-fryer, for interested fast-food utensil spotters. I didn't notice however as you can't see the back, what with all those people filling the place.
