The Shard
London is engaged in an unprecedented 'tall-building-fixation'. There are 5 currently under construction:
- The Shard which will be the tallest - 310m/1,017 ft
- Bishopsgate Tower - 288m/945 ft
- Heron Tower - 246m/807ft
- Riverside South (Tower 1) - 236m/772 ft
- The Leadenhall Building - 225m/737 ft
The tallest building in London and the UK, is still '1 Canada Square' at 235m/800 ft, which will eventually be bumped into fourth place when the current crop are completed.
As I've watched The Shard over the last 6 months, (usually from platform 6, at London Bridge Station), I've noticed it's not matching up to the 'artist's impression' that was used to gain planning permission. So I've decided to doodle, how I think it might look when finished.
(Click on the thumbnail to open the picture).
Disagree? Then doodle one yourself (entitled: 'How the Shard will eventually look, and that, competition') and either forward a link to it on-site, email me: admin@inlondonguide.co.uk, @inlondonguide - Twitter, or dispatch by courier-leopard.
Entries will be collated to form a gallery. The eventual winner will also have their entry forwarded to Boris Johnson, so he can keep abreast of important matters in the Capital. (see 'Competition Rules' at the end of this article).
Get doodling, and remember to keep it in a small window at the bottom of your screen. They're not paying you for this kind of thing.
Competition Rules:
The final decision will rest with the Inside Guide to London - unless I'm seduced by a bribe.
Don't send the original artist's impression in. Try to plumb your imagination a little deeper.
Multiple entries are accepted and welcomed.
Make it web friendly (800x600 JPG), rather than a 50MB Tiff.
No expense claims please.
Oh, that'll do.
