Beer and Jazz Festival
Not a combo that immediately springs to mind - but if the weather holds up (sadly, predictions are
tending towards the moist end of the spectrum), then who wouldn't love to spend a lazy day or two on the lawns of the Naval College at Greenwich. Although the theme is jazz, the musical canon is broader than that. This year's headlining acts include:
- - Tony Hadley and his Swing Band (didn't know he had one)
- - The Fun Lovin' Criminals
- - The Brand New Heavies
- - James Taylor Quartet (the real deal)
- - Omar ("there's nothin' like thiiiii-ii-iiis" - still has the hair too)
Described as the perfect, pint-sized festival - the beer range goes much further than 4% lager in plastic cups. Over 200 types are on offer - from major and minor British producers, but not to worry if you prefer lager - there's a Budvar bar and a Pimms and Champagne tent for the more upmarket tipplers.
Festival food on offer from:
- Seacow - Fish and Chips from their bio-diesel powered van
- Pure Pies - giving the humble pie (no pun etc.) the kind of attention it deserves - a favourite of festival goers since 2002
- Eat Fat Pig - yep - it's a big, fat pig with lashings of crackling, apple sauce, etc.
I hope the rain holds off, as there are few better places to kick back and relax in London than Greenwich. But best have a cagoule on standby. It's the lifeblood of the nation - standing in the pouring rain listening to music - like pluckily losing at football - it never dampens the spirit. A minor setback perhaps, then we move onwards - into glorious, sunlit upland.
The festival runs from today 27th May 2010 to Bank Holiday Monday - 31st of May 2010.
U18s not admitted after 5pm, or without an adult ticket holder.
Tickets range from £15-£27.50 depending on the day/act performing.
