Cork and Bottle – Leicester Square

(0 votes, average 0 out of 5)

The Cork and Bottle is yards from the most concentrated, epicentre of tourist London. It's a supremely miss-able establishment amongst all those flashing lights and attention grabbing knick-knack shops. Ignore their tat and head towards this basement bar which is friendly and brimful of atmosphere. Cork and Bottle: fine food and wine in tourist central.Robust food such as sirloin sandwiches, burgers and sausages prop up the menu. They're recipients of a recent food award from Frommer's, so dispel any ideas that the food is an afterthought to the wine.

In operation for nearly 40 years under the same owner, The Cork and Bottle is one of very few independent retailers in the area. The wine list is extensive and sourced via the growers rather than intermediaries. Positive reviews from the likes of Gault Millau, Time Out, Forbes, Tatler and the Evening Standard - give it the kind of approval seal that's hard to refute. Wine is available by the glass or bottle.

Very useful if you're meeting friends or business colleagues in the centre of town and want somewhere that's classy, without the fuss.
